Attorney - Disability & Aging Crime Victims Unit

Job Summary
Attorney sought by the Disability Rights Center of Kansas for its Disability & Aging Crime Victims Unit (DACVU). The successful candidate will provide direct legal services to crime victims with disabilities of all ages, including seniors. Preference will be given to an attorney with 5+ years of litigation and courtroom experience, but the position is open to all attorneys with a license to practice law in Kansas with 0 to 5+ years of experience, including recent law school graduates. Applicants with a law license in another jurisdiction must be eligible for and obtain a Kansas law license through reciprocity.
Salary range depends on experience and salary history but could be anywhere from $52,500 to $72,000 per year, with the top of that range reserved solely for candidates with exceptional experience, abilities, and salary history.

Advocate - Disability & Aging Crime Victims Unit

Job Summary
Advocate sought by Disability Rights Center (DRC) of Kansas to advocate for crime victims with disabilities, with an emphasis on senior citizens who are victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation. The Advocate works at the direction of a licensed attorney to ensure the provision of accurate and effective crime victims rights and legal services.
40 hour a week position, 8 am to 5 pm (M-F). Yearly pay is approximately $40K - $45K, depending on experience.
DRC is a non-profit, disability rights legal advocacy agency. DRC is a 501(c)(3) organization that qualifies for student loan forgiveness. Qualifications
- - A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or four years work experience in the field of advocacy.
- - Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- - Effective oral and written communication skills.
- - Ability to maintain confidentiality and be discreet with highly-sensitive and confidential information.
- - Protection and advocacy or other related disability rights experience is preferred.
- - Knowledge of disability rights law/issues is preferred but if not, interest in and willingness to learn about disability rights law/issues is required.
- - Strong organizational and time management skills.
- - Strong initiative, work ethic, and motivation.
- - Strong commitment to DRC’s mission and the needs of individuals with disabilities.
- - Willingness to be open-minded and accept constructive comments and feedback.
- - Appropriate computer skills and knowledge
- - Reliability, ability to work as needed, and ability to maintain an acceptable attendance record.
- - Ability to multitask, perform effective casework and fulfill the essential job functions of this position while concurrently carrying an active caseload and performing intakes.
